On Step-Up day last week, the Year 8 cohort had a chance to participate in a Chapel service that included a “rite of passage” ritual.

Addressing boys during the service, Chaplain Intern Ed Ruediger spoke about the journey from ‘boy to man’ and reminded students that Jesus Christ himself  walked the path that they are now walking.

As they move from the Middle School to the Senior School, he encouraged them to reflect on their Year 7 and 8 years and to leave behind “the things of a child” (1 Corinthians verse 11) like regrets, disappointments or unhelpful attitudes and behaviours.

Students were able to write these things down, offer them to God in prayer for “forgiveness and forgetfulness” and then shred the sheet of paper on the way out of Chapel.

The liturgy for the special service was created by Chaplaincy Team members Rev Julia and Chaplain Ed.
