Thomas Gaertner (DAC 2020) received a tied first place in overall achievement for Standard Level IB German in SA, excelling in all aspects of the examination process and school assessment. He was awarded the ‘Christine Nöstlinger Prize’, awarded to non-background speakers who achieve results at the top of the state. Thomas accepted his award in person at the German Teachers Conference last week at Pulteney Grammar School.
In his speech, given entirely in German, Thomas thanked his German teachers and acknowledged the benefit a second language gives in regard to personal and academic development. He also outlined his intention to use the language during part of his course at Cambridge University, when working in Switzerland.
Thomas is very deserving of this recognition, as he has worked consistently since I first taught him in Year 8.
We wish him all the best with his future studies.
