A few weeks ago, students from both the Junior and Senior schools were inspired by a visit from Tim Jarvis AM, renowned environmental scientist, adventurer, and author. Tim’s stories of exploration and his passion for sustainability left a lasting impression on all who attended.
Tim shared highlights from his extraordinary career, including his recreation of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s legendary Antarctic expedition. Facing the same brutal conditions and using period-accurate equipment, Tim and his team demonstrated the extraordinary resilience and teamwork required to survive against the odds.
For Junior School students, his storytelling brought environmental challenges to life, encouraging curiosity about the natural world and their role in its care. Senior School students were challenged to think critically about their responsibilities as future leaders and how they can contribute to meaningful change.
Tim’s visit underscored the power of determination and the importance of taking action to address climate change. His words sparked conversations across year levels about the impact of individual and collective efforts to create a sustainable future.
We thank Tim Jarvis for his engaging and thought-provoking presentations, which have motivated our students to embrace their roles as stewards of the planet and leaders of tomorrow.
Tim’s visit was made possible through the Rex J Lipman Program. This unique initiative brings some of the world’s best thinkers and leaders to the School to encourage and inspire our students.
The benefactor of the Fellows Program, the late Dr Rex J Lipman attended St Peter’s College from 1933 to 1937. Dr Lipman made significant contributions across various South Australian industries including banking, tourism and hotel management. In recognition of his achievements, he was honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia in 1989 and again in 2008.
