We were lucky to have two excellent teams enter the Tournament of Minds competition this year. Our STEM team (Krish Grover, Rohan, Sean Zhang, Nicholas Yang, William Guo and Fred Bendyk) created a humorous presentation to deal with the serious problem of plastic. They wrote a script using rhyme, used recycled materials to create costumes and backdrops, and transformed themselves into various characters including bugs, scientists and even plastic personified.

Our Social Sciences team (Shaurya Yadav, Jayden Chen, Sidhansh Arramraj, Alexander Willis, James Beresford and Rupert Brooks) imagined a world where the tectonic plates had shifted and positivity, respect and kindness had been released into the planet. They created an impressive model of the changed world, and their script was entertaining along with their creative costumes and set designs – featuring a cardboard vending machine containing the last chocolate bar on Earth. The competition was close, and both teams received excellent feedback from the judges on their problem-solving and teamwork skills.

At the end of a long day, the STEM team was fortunate enough to be awarded Honours. A big thank you to the parents for their wonderful support throughout this challenge. We have gained a wealth of knowledge to take into the next competition, and I look forward to working with next year’s teams.
