The Recycled Uniform Shop (RUS), operated by St Peter’s College Mission, is more than a place to buy and sell pre-loved school uniforms. It is a practical example of how sustainability, community and charitable giving can come together to create a lasting impact. Now, through our new partnership, we are delighted to introduce Treasure Boxes as a new charity partner of St Peter’s College Mission.
Treasure Boxes is a South Australian grassroots charity supporting children and families experiencing crisis by providing essential items including clothing, shoes, toiletries, school supplies, nappies and other everyday necessities. These simple items can provide dignity, comfort, safety and a sense of belonging.
“Every item donated will help ease the burden on families already carrying so much. Your support reinforces that the work we do is important. It not only strengthens our capacity to respond to the rising need ; it strengthens our belief that community – minded organisations can drive real, tangible change when they back grassroots impact” says Raj Vasan, Head of Fundraising for Treasure Boxes.
You can now support both the RUS and Treasure Boxes when you drop off your donations. Where appropriate, these uniforms can be redirected to Treasure Boxes giving them another opportunity to be useful to children and families in need.
It creates a wonderful full circle of charitable giving:
A uniform is donated → given a second life → raises funds for charity → or is redirected to help a child in need.
The power of community
This initiative has been strengthened by the remarkable efforts of our volunteer members of the St Peter’s College Mission community, in particular Kirsty Whiteman, Cleo Cooper, Stef Pratt and Melissa Cleanthous whose initiative and belief in the Treasure Boxes cause have inspired others to get involved. What began with the initiative of a few has grown into a collective effort, with families coming together to support children and families they may never meet.
“We will run special RUS drives to help Treasure Boxes when they are in desperate need of certain items. This was was what we did a few weeks ago,” says Steph Pratt, RUS Coordinator.
“Treasure Boxes had partly completed boxes piling up, that could not be sent out because they were missing one or two essential items. Our one-week drive, meant all the boxes in the warehouse could be filled and sent, reaching SA children in need and making an immediate impact in communities of less fortunate children. Our community donated approximately $2,500 worth of deodorant, shampoo, conditioner and nappies, items specially requested at the time of the drive.”
This is the quiet power of community leadership. Sometimes it isn’t about a grand gesture. It is about seeing a need, taking the first step and giving others a reason to join you.
Every uniform donated, every item shared and every purchase made through RUS contributes to a more sustainable school community while supporting charitable outcomes.
For RUS donations – place pre-loved St Peter’s College uniforms in the Blue Bin located at the base of the stairs outside the Recycled Uniform Shop.
