The Year 7 Art students were most fortunate to have Trent Hill, an Aboriginal Storyteller and Educator, visit them in Week 6. The boys were highly engaged in Trent’s presentation which included sharing of a Dreaming story, hunting tools as well as playing the yidaki (digeridoo).  Students were also shown some symbols and animal tracks which were drawn in the sand. It was an inspiring morning, which I know the boys really enjoyed.

As part of the current unit of work, the Year 7 Art students have also researched the incredible work by Aboriginal artist Reko Rennie and have had discussions of the important difference between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation while creating works of art. With these enriched learning experiences, students will now create an artwork in response to their learning, based on their own identity and personal history.
