Lipman Lecture
It is my great pleasure to announce that in partnership with the Australia Day Council of South Australia, Dr Richard Harris SC OAM (FLL ’81) will speak at St Peter’s College as part of our Rex J Lipman lecture series. In July 2018, Dr Richard Harris made worldwide headlines when he joined an international team to rescue a group of 12 boys and their soccer coach from a flooded cave in Chiang Rai, Thailand. Dr Harris will speak at Memorial Hall on Thursday 4 April 2019 and the event is expected to book out. Please ensure you RSVP to secure your spot.

Social Entrepreneurship WOMAD initiative
Tonight, our parent and student volunteers commence on the roster to help supervise the car parking over the weekend until Monday evening. It is bound to be long and boring. Thank heavens the weather is kind. The entire purpose of this activity is to build a modest portion of funds to support a social enterprise grant application scheme. This scheme will be open to our students to assist them in scaling up or actioning social enterprise initiatives. Our Strategic Plan points to a greater focus on first, understanding the needs of our wider Adelaide community and second, seeking to address those needs. I look forward to seeing what enterprises gain support in the future.

Truth Respect Service
During our Ash Wednesday Service this week all students and staff were challenged to commit to our core School values, Truth Respect and Service. It is one thing to say these words and an entirely different challenge to live by each value. I want to draw your attention to the McMichael Cup tennis championship that was played on Wednesday afternoon this week between Callum Gale (Year 11) and Richard Rosser (Year 11). Congratulations to the winner Callum Gale. It was a hard-fought fixture with plenty of opportunities for each player to take advantage of errors made by his opponent. At one crucial point in the set Callum’s cross court return that was unreachable by Richard was called out by the umpire. Soon after the call Richard clarified that the ball was in fact in. A great moment of truth in sport where Richard lifted the integrity of the game and our community. Well done Richard.

James Morrison’s visit to Saints
I am also pleased to welcome acclaimed Jazz musician James Morrison on Monday 18 March. James will facilitate a workshop and perform with students. James’ visit is thanks to Director of Music, Philip Walsh being awarded the James Morrison Band Directors Award, in recognition for outstanding leadership and inspiration in the field of Jazz education.

Congratulations to Blake Lawrenson (Year 12) who is one of only 120 Year 11 and 12 students from around Australia who will be attending the 24th National Schools Constitutional Convention (NSCC) held at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, Canberra. A wonderful opportunity, well done Blake.
