2022 Turnbull Cup
The Turnbull Cup is a knock-out tennis cup competition here at St Peters College that determines the Years 7 to 9 Singles Tennis Champion. This year’s competition consisted of participants with one goal in mind, to be the 2022 Turnbull Cup Champion and hoping to add their name on a trophy next to recent champions, Seb Birdseye (2021), Jonas Hahn (2020), Angus Koeroessy (2019) and Harry Bruce (2018).
Some hotly contested matches leading up to the final that included impressive performances from Neil Singh who defeated Ben Francou 9 –7 in the semi-final. The final between Krish Raju and Neil Singh was played at a high standard with both boys ready for the challenge, but in the end Krish, with a cool head and playing the important points better, prevailed 9 – 5 to become the 2022 Turnbull Cup Champion.
2022 Bowman Cup
The Bowman Cup is a knock-out tennis cup competition here at St Peters College that determines the Open Doubles Tennis Champions of the School.
This year’s competition began in very cold conditions and ended in contrast on a warm afternoon. This year’s final was played between the number 1 seeded combination of Angus Koeroessy/Jude Gale who played Seb Birdseye/Krish Raju. This trophy is highly valued and has a long history. Recent winners include Seb Birdseye/Angus Koeroessy (2021), brothers Callum & Jude Gale (2020 & 2019) and Richard Rosser/Noah Koeroessy (2018).
This year’s final began well for Seb and Krish who broke serve early to lead 3 – 0. Excellent positional play by all players coupled with crisp net volleying was the order of the match. Angas and Jude began to find their form closing the score to 6 – 6 with excellent serving by Angus and well marshalled by Jude. The match ebbed and flowed with wonderful doubles tennis by all players.
In the end Jude and Angus prevailed winning 9 – 7 to collect the 2022 Bowman Cup.
