On 23 September, St Peter’s College proudly hosted its inaugural VEX Robotics V5RC Blended qualifier event, and it was a remarkable day of innovation, collaboration, and fierce competition. Sixteen teams from over ten South Australian schools descended upon the campus, each eager to showcase their skills and creativity in the exciting world of robotics.

The atmosphere was electric as teams gathered early in the morning to prepare and strategise. With the stakes high and the excitement palpable, each team demonstrated their technological prowess and teamwork, navigating the challenges of the competition with determination and finesse. Throughout the day, spectators were treated to a series of intense matches that highlighted the hard work and dedication of these young engineers.

St Peter’s College 11860E & 11860A teams emerged at the end of the day as the Tournament Champions, delivering an outstanding performance, winning 8 out of 9 matches. Their success reflected not only their technical ingenuity but also their ability to work cohesively as a team, adapting to challenges and supporting one another through the competition. It is often the strongest alliance, not the best robots, that wins the tournament.

The event showcased more than just competition; it fostered a spirit of learning and collaboration among participants. Teams exchanged ideas, shared insights, and celebrated each other’s achievements, emphasising the values of sportsmanship and community that are central to the VEX Robotics programme.

As the day drew to a close, the camaraderie and excitement shown by all participants made it clear that the future of robotics in South Australia is bright. St Peter’s College has set a high standard as a host for such events, and we look forward to seeing more competitions that inspire the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

Congratulations to all teams for their hard work and dedication, and a special mention to Ben Xu, Brayden Xu, Lutanda McLeod, Charles Nguyen, Nemindu Athukorala, Edward Gross, and Jesse Weber for a triumphant win. We can’t wait to see what you achieve at the SA State Championships in October!
