Volunteering at the Magdalene Centre during the Term 3 school break was a truly wonderful experience. We were accompanied by a great level of hospitality by the program coordinators, whose guidance and care was so integral and inspiring to our time. Being aware of Australia’s rising rates of homelessness and an everlasting cost of living crisis, the boys knew how important the program is to support many South Australia at the moment. It was a highly rewarding experience, putting consideration and effort into everything we did, knowing how many lives we were helping.

As one of the leaders, the boys’ effort and passion to truly help was what stood out to me the most. Even though the boys knew that no-one was watching, they were never half-hearted in their efforts and always ensured they did the task to the highest quality.

AnglicareSA is an extraordinary organisation that supports the community by providing food, clothing, books, and toys to those in need. Over the Term 3 holidays, fifteen boys, including myself, volunteered at the Magdalene Centre, where we organised Christmas hampers filled with selected goods for the holiday season. Our efforts supported AnglicareSA in producing hundreds of additional hampers that will positively impact the community. St Peter’s College and AnglicareSA have successfully collaborated many times before, and this time was no exception; all the boys arrived with enthusiasm and a collective commitment to making a meaningful difference. St Peter’s College will continue to see the boys contribute to AnglicareSA’s vital services as the School greatly values its impact, with volunteers considering it a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.

The Magdalene Centre’s Emergency Assistance program is run by AnglicareSA, and aims to support both individuals and families without the financial means to acquire essential everyday items such as food and clothing. This program is vital for people experiencing hardship.

Thank you to Julia and Jill for supporting and guiding our students and helping them to understand the importance of providing these everyday essentials to people in need.

Thank you to the following students who contributed three days of their time during the holidays to volunteer:
