Year 9 Introduction to Ceramics students in Ms Rosalynde Skewes’ class have been lucky enough to have their work entered into the Solar & Sun Exhibition at the Arid Lands Botanic Garden in Port Augusta. The theme and requirements of this exhibition dictated that the sculptures needed to be constructed of 50% raw or 50% recycled material and had to include elements of the theme “Solar & Sun – harnessing natural resources”. The brief also specified that work must be wind tolerant and structurally sound, as they would remain outside for the duration of the exhibition. The Year 9 students addressed these requirements by creating pieces based upon native flora, adding glazes to create pops of colour against the red earth they are displayed upon.

Last years exhibition had great exposure with 11,600 people visiting Arid Lands Botanic Garden during the exhibition.

Thank you to Ms Skewes for organising this fantastic opportunity for the Year 9 Introduction to Ceramics students, and to the class for embracing this opportunity so wholeheartedly.

The students are elegable for the Youth/Junior Award  and the People’s Choice Award. You can vote for their work here: People’s Choice Award
