Two events this week have highlighted to me the importance of the transitions and changes that are going to occur for our students and families. I attended the Year 7 Chapel Service with the Year 6 students who will be moving into the Middle School in 2023. The day before I was part of a welcome to St Peter’s College parent meeting for new families who will be joining our community in 2023. Both events are important parts of our transition process with boys able to listen, observe and ask questions about the new environments that they will be learning in next year.

In my first article this year back in February, I highlighted the topic of school transitions for our families at St Peter’s College. Importantly this change that occurs does not just happen on the first day of a new school year. It is important as a community we work together to prepare our students for their new learning environments, new relationships and new adventures that are to come. Many members of our community will be experiencing a broad range of emotions at this time and conversations and dialogue is the key to support each other through these transitions.

In 2022 the Junior School has been trialling the digital platform SchoolTV to provide parents and teachers with an extensive range of wellbeing resources. Parents can access this tool from a tile in Keystone or by following this link to the particular resources on school transitions. This resource can provide some strategies and support for you to talk through with your child and please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher, year level coordinator or myself to give further support at this time.
