As we begin a new school year, there is a sense of excitement and anticipation in the air. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all members of our community as we embark on another year of growth, learning and connection. At St Peter’s College, our commitment to student wellbeing remains at the heart of everything we do, fostering an environment where every student feels supported, valued and empowered to thrive.
The emotional and mental wellbeing of our students plays a vital role in their success and overall school experience. Throughout 2025, our explicit wellbeing lessons and embedded wellbeing practices will continue to focus on self-care, emotional regulation, and the importance of nurturing strong, healthy relationships. Strategies such as mindfulness exercises, deep breathing techniques, and open discussions about emotional management and help-seeking behaviours will equip students with lifelong skills to navigate challenges with confidence.
Creating a strong sense of belonging, where every student feels seen, heard, and valued, remains a priority. Our wellbeing framework is guided by positive psychology principles, focusing on character strengths, emotional management, attention and awareness, relationships, coping strategies, good habits and goal-setting. We continue to integrate Lea Waters’ Visible Wellbeing framework across our school, ensuring that wellbeing is not just taught but made visible in all aspects of school life.
Strong friendships and positive social connections are integral to a child’s happiness and engagement at school. We continue to embed the URStrong program across the Junior School, reinforcing the language of friendships and relationships. URStrong has provided free memberships for families, and I encourage you to sign up to access valuable resources that align with the relationship strategies used by our teachers. A strong partnership between parents and the school is essential for student success and wellbeing.
Open communication and shared understanding create a supportive network that enhances learning and personal development. In 2025, SchoolTV will once again be available to our families as a valuable digital wellbeing resource. Parents can access this platform via Keystone or through the provided link, offering insights and guidance on a wide range of wellbeing topics. In recognising the unique benefits of single-sex education, I encourage families to explore the Raising Boys section of SchoolTV. As a community, we have an important role in guiding our boys towards positive role models who foster the attitudes and behaviours that lead to meaningful engagement and connection. As we embark on this new school year, let’s embrace the opportunities ahead with optimism and enthusiasm. Together, we can create a school environment that nurtures growth, connection and joy. I look forward to working alongside students, staff, and families to make 2025 a year of continued success and wellbeing.
