On Wednesday 1 March, I joined with Ben Storer (Deputy Head of Junior School – Wellbeing & Administration) to present a summary of the Wellbeing Programs at St Peters College. Over 100 parents registered to attend, which forced a change of venue from Big School Room to Memorial Hall.
After drawing attention to the latest Mission Australia statistics around the mental health and wellbeing of young people, Ben and I discussed notable definitions and frameworks of wellbeing, and explained the ways in which we address student wellbeing via a wide range of programs at St Peter’s College. The School’s unique journey with wellbeing, which commenced with Professor Martin Seligman’s visit to SPSC in 2012, has led to extensive professional development for staff, and resulted in evidence-based Wellbeing Programs influencing all aspects of school life. The evening concluded with a lively and enthusiastic question and answer session, which demonstrated the fundamental importance of student wellbeing to our parent community.
