The winter co-curricular season at St Peter’s College has begun with great energy and enthusiasm, with Football, Hockey, Soccer, Cross Country, and Basketball providing students with exciting opportunities for engagement and physical development.
Football has seen a strong start, with improved performances across the board thanks to early preparation and the introduction of both full-size and 12-a-side teams in Years 5 and 6. Our Year 2/3 and Year 3/4 players are also benefitting from high-quality coaching, led by newly appointed staff and overseen by Mr Cini. The atmosphere at matches has been incredibly positive, which is reflected both in team performance and the enjoyment of players and their families. Adding to the excitement, former Adelaide Crows star Scott Thompson has been actively involved in mentoring players during PE lessons, recess sessions, and football practices – sharing his professional expertise and passion for the game.
Soccer continues its remarkable growth, with 215 students already nominated for the 2025 season. This has led to the formation of 12 competitive teams and over 90 Year 2/3 players training regularly on Friday evenings at Girdlestone Oval. We are excited to welcome Andreas Orphanou as the new Head Soccer Coach in the Junior School. Andreas is spearheading the development of a structured Soccer curriculum and supporting our team of young and experienced coaches to elevate both performance and enjoyment.
Cross Country is thriving, with 31 boys competing weekly in citywide events each Wednesday afternoon. Our athletes made a strong impression at the North Adelaide SAPSASA trials, with Abraham Tembel, Douglas Cundy, Sam Wells, Jonathan Bass, Angus Steel, and Isaac Hogan delivering dominant performances across their age groups.
Basketball has firmly established itself as a year-round sport, with our Year 6 teams competing at PAC and a new Tuesday evening competition for Year 4/5 players at the Burchnall Sports Centre. The program continues to build momentum, developing skills and fostering team spirit.
Hockey has seen a significant increase in participation, with a 50% rise in numbers and three teams now competing successfully in weekly Friday matches.
Beyond sports, the winter co-curricular program continues to support academic and intellectual growth, with Chess and Debating attracting over 150 boys. These activities take place on a fortnightly basis and continue to grow in popularity and prestige.
The 2025 Winter Co-Curricular season promises to be one of our most successful and engaging yet. We thank our staff, coaches, students, and families for their continued support and commitment.
