Every student in Year 4 participates in the Year 4 Band Program. At the beginning of each year, all Year 4 boys are put through a rigorous instrumental tryout program and have the opportunity to experience every band instrument. The team of instrumental staff then match the boys with the instrument they are most likely to succeed in taking into considerations such as interest and physical suitability. The boys then receive their instruments in Week 3 of Term 1.
In the Year 4 band program students are matched with the a range of band instruments which include trumpet, trombone, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, oboe, French horn, electric bass, euphonium and percussion.
Each boy participates in two music classes per week where they receive instrumental lessons from our team of highly experienced instrumental staff. The rest of the class further develop their understanding of music through a wide range of practical, theoretical and analytical activities. The boys then swap over halfway through the 45 minute lesson.
Each class also has the opportunity to rehearse as a class band in the afternoon lesson which the boys really enjoy. The boys work through increasingly challenging repertoire as the weeks progress. Our current Year 4 students will be presenting a short concert to the Year 3 students in Term 3 and we hope to have our End of Year Concert late in Term 4 where we can share the successes of the boys with you.
Thank you to all parents for your continued support by encouraging regular practice and ensuring they come to school with their instruments every Thursday.
We look forward to sharing the results of the boys learning with you later in 2020.
