The Canberra Tour from 12-16 November was a fabulous experience for all Year 6 students. The trip was filled with many learning experiences, with visits to Parliament House, National Capital Exhibition, Royal Australian Mint, Canberra Deep Space Centre, Australian Electoral Commission, National Portrait Gallery, National Museum of Australia and the Australian War Memorial. The tour also included exciting adventures to the Australian Insititute of Sport and Questacon.

Highlights were viewing the Senate in action, the giant slide and the lightning cage at Questacon, and the Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial.

Our whirlwind tour of the Nation’s Capital ended on arrival back home on Friday afternoon, exhausted but with greater knowledge about our system of government and how democracy in Australia works.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. The Australian Government contributes funding towards this tour under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program.
