After working on a unit on French food, the Year 7 French students and teachers Madame Anna Rek, Madame Arasmia Hanna, Madame Irene Castrechini-Sutton and Madame Spiby enjoyed the fruits of their labour at the Petit Déjeuner Français (French Breakfast).

Held on 15 November, their usual classrooms were upgraded to the Pentreath balcony, which Chartwells had transformed into a restaurant en plein air (outdoor restaurant). The restaurant  complete with tables and chairs and a long centrepiece table containing covered silver serving trays,  quickly had the boys guessing what French culinary delights might lie inside.

Madame Irene Castrechini-Sutton greeted the boys in French and announced the menu: crêpes au chocolat et aux fraises, croissants avec confiture de fraise, chocolat chaud, jus d’orange et des fruits. Miam, miam!

Before beginning their feast, the boys were treated to a short performance of their recent restaurant role-play task by two groups of boys. They were then invited, table by table, to place their orders in French with the teachers serving and wishing them Bon appétit!

With very full stomachs and not a crumb left over, the boys finally adjourned to the classroom to enjoy an entertaining Kahoot quiz on French cultural topics studied throughout the year, kindly prepared by Madame Anna Rek.

Special thanks must go to Madame Irene Castrechini-Sutton for organising this convivial event which allowed the two French classes to come together to share one of the very best aspects of French culture!
