The Years 9/10 Boys Knockout Soccer team has progressed to the second round of the School Sport SA competition following victories over Thomas More College and Woodville High School.
The opening match against Thomas More College was tightly contested and ultimately decided in a penalty shootout, played in front of students gathered at recess. After 10 successful penalties from each team, Year 10 goalkeeper Ewan Woodall saved Thomas More’s next attempt to seal the victory.
Woodville High School then defeated Thomas More College 3–1, leaving SPSC needing to win the final match of the day to progress.
The boys responded with an excellent team performance, with goals from Lachie Yeomans (Year 9), Austen Speirs (Year 10) and Andrei Chemutov (Year 9) securing a comfortable victory.
The team will now face Rostrevor College and Roma Mitchell Secondary College in a challenging semi-final round which will take place in the next two weeks.
