Students of our Young Archies Portraiture Group co-curricular have set themselves the ambitious goal of completing a portrait for the 2025 Young Archie Competition. Throughout this term, students have worked positively and diligently alongside one another to master portraiture-specific techniques and processes.
We have been fortunate to have some special guests attend our classes in recent weeks. Artist Sara Boni attended our Monday 18 November class to share her practice and guide students in planning for their final portraits. Of particular note, Ms Boni affirmed that children are naturally creative and implored our students to continue using their skills as a ‘voice’ to illustrate how they see the world through their own eyes. To celebrate how far our students have come, on Monday 2 December, and Tuesday 3 December, we held two Christmas-themed classes. Parents, grandparents, and siblings joined us for festive sweets, music, and a range of enjoyable art activities.
Some of these special guests have been selected by students as the subjects for their Young Archie portraits, and these guests sat to be drawn. Other special guests drew superb watercolour pencil artworks alongside us. We are grateful to have such a positive, encouraging and engaged community.
We were delighted to have our Headmaster, Mr Browning, surprise us by dropping by to observe the progress of students. Mr Browning encourages all students to pursue the arts passionately, with commitment and ambition. We thank Mr Browning for his resounding support. We look forward to presenting the School community with students’ final portraits next year. Portraits may be selected as finalist entries in the Young Archie Competition at the Art Gallery of NSW. Portraits will otherwise be available to view at our 2025 St Peter’s College SALA exhibition.
