Preserving History | Renewing Purpose

Old School House holds a remarkable place in the history of St Peter’s College. Originally known as the Main Building, it was the first building begun on the School’s present site. While not the first completed, it quickly became central to early School life – home to the Headmaster and his family, resident masters, domestic staff and generations of boarders.

Its classrooms, corridors, clock tower, carved stonework and shared spaces carry the memory of those who have lived, learned, taught and gathered here across many generations. For some, Old School House is remembered as a place of boarding life and daily routine; for others, it is closely connected to classrooms, music, administration and the steady rhythm of School life.

Today, Old School House continues to serve the School community, but like many buildings of historic significance, it requires careful and ongoing renewal. Preserving Old School House is about more than maintaining a heritage building – it is about ensuring one of the School’s most significant places continues to have purpose and life.

In recent years, support from old scholars and members of the wider School community has helped begin this careful renewal, including the first stage of works focused on the RT Potter Room. The Old School House Fund will support the next stage of this broader renewal, helping preserve classrooms, shared spaces and historic features for current and future students.

By supporting the Old School House Fund, you will help honour the generations who have come before while ensuring this treasured building remains a living part of the student experience for generations to come.
