As the saying goes, you never get a second chance to make a first impression. My first impression of St Peter’s College has been influenced by the warmth of the School community. I have joined a team of colleagues who are passionate about the care they provide their students; I daily encounter students who show both courage and maturity; and I enjoy meetings with parents who help me to get to know their sons and their circumstances a little better.

Some major highlights this year have been the House Dinners and House Athletics Day, where spirits and emotions ran high in all the right ways, and, in fact all events – sport, music, drama – and activities in general, where every student has a chance to cultivate a greater sense of belonging. The biggest highlight of the year, perhaps, was the Year 12 week-long farewell, where the School paid appropriate respect and attention to the school journeys of many fine young men reaching their end.

At the Year 7 to 11 Speech Day today, we recognised the 173rd prize recipients of St Peter’s College. Mrs Sally Bartz delivered the Speech Day Address, with a message about love of learning. The standing ovation was signal enough of the community’s respect of Mrs Bartz’ 36 year tenure, and of how our students can show both strength and love with no prompting. I would also like to thank Mr David Martin and Mr Kyle Martelle for the contribution they have made in the Maths and Humanities faculties respectively, and I wish them all the very best as they move on from St Peter’s College at the end of this year.

New students begin their journey at St Peter’s College on Wednesday 27 January, with current students returning on Thursday 28 January. Full term dates can be found here.

I wish you a restful break over the festive period.

Best regards,

Marcus Blackburn
Deputy Headmaster/Head of Senior School
