Service in the Junior School
One of our School values at St Peter’s College is service. One of the ways we action this value is through serving the needs of the wider community. Last Friday’s Assembly was an opportunity to highlight three Junior School service projects.
Firstly, we were incredibly proud to present Legacy Executive Officer Mr Mark Matthews a $550 donation from our students’ Anzac biscuits sale. Please read Mr Ben Storer’s article for further details here.
Next, our Year 4 Student Representative Council students presented information about our Light Up Vanuatu campaign. There are some 47,000 children currently living in extreme energy poverty in Vanuatu. Charcoal and firewood or harmful fuel-based sources like kerosene are used by children to read and study at night. To support the children in Vanuatu, our students have been running 1km per day around Girdlestone Oval and asking family and friends to sponsor their running to purchase solar light kits. Our students will then assemble the solar lights and send them to Vanuatu. Click here if you would like to contribute towards lighting up Vanuatu and sponsoring a solar light kit.
Finally, Year 6 students shared information about the upcoming Anglican Charities Day on Wednesday 16 June. Cancelled last year due to COVID restrictions, students and staff alike are looking forward to this student-driven fundraising event where boys have been tasked with running their own stalls. Boys will be able to wear casual clothes and enjoy a sausage sizzle lunch. To pre-order a sausage sizzle, please click here.
If your son or family are involved in service activities outside of the School please let me know as I would love to celebrate further examples of our School value being modelled in our exceptional community.
Sports Captains
I am pleased to announce the following Winter Sports Captains who were presented with their leadership badges in Assembly last Friday:
- Caleb Scott: Basketball
- Alex Ascensio: Soccer
- Louis Bizot: Football
- Tom Burns: Hockey
Palm House Strings
Congratulations to the Palm House Strings ensemble who have performed in the Junior Primary, Grandparents’ Day and Years 3 to 6 assemblies in the past fortnight. They should be commended for their high level of musicianship demonstrated during their performances. Thank you to the parents who shared the gorgeous photo of the boys carrying their instruments up to Memorial Hall on Friday (see below).
Junior School Friends of Saints Coffee Morning | Thursday 24 June
The Junior School Friends of Saints is hosting a Coffee Morning on Thursday 24 June. This will be an opportunity for parents to meet some of the JSFoS committee members and find out how you can be involved in community events focused on ‘Friend Raising’ at St Peter’s College. I look forward to seeing you there! Please click here to register for this event.
Uniform Reminders
Please remember that students in Years 3 to 6 are required to wear their blazer both to and from school in Terms 2 and 3. We have also been reminding boys that their tie knot should cover their top shirt button. I would encourage you to help your son learn to tie his own tie at home. There are ‘how to’ videos on YouTube, however I am inviting students to create their own ‘how to’ video for us to share in an upcoming Assembly.
