Our Years 5 and 6 Annual Concert, Fiesta Latina, was one of many moments this term that showcased the very best of our St Peter’s College community. The colour, energy and enthusiasm that filled Memorial Hall were a fitting celebration of the tremendous effort our boys and staff had invested. Learning the music, dance and rhythms of Latin America was no small undertaking, yet the boys embraced the challenge with confidence, commitment and joy.
Watching the performances unfold, I was reminded that events like these are about far more than a concert. They reflect our enduring belief that every boy has the capacity to be an academic, an athlete and an artist. These are not competing pursuits, but complementary ones, each helping to develop confident, capable and well-rounded young men.
It was wonderful to see boys performing across multiple ensembles, demonstrating impressive versatility as they sang, danced and played instruments. They are still discovering just how capable they are, and experiences like these encourage them to continue exploring their many talents.
Congratulations to Ms Katie Carey, the Junior School Music team and everyone who contributed to bringing Fiesta Latina to life. Their vision, creativity and dedication created an unforgettable celebration of music, community and collaboration that reflected the very best of our Junior School.
The remarkable talent within our School community was again on display at our final Muster of the term. Year 7 student Frank Wang delivered an extraordinary solo violin performance in honour of Mr David Nolan. His concentration, technical mastery and musical maturity left the entire audience in awe. It was one of those rare moments where words simply fail to capture what we had just witnessed. It was a powerful reminder of what young people can achieve when talent is nurtured with commitment, discipline and courage.
Frank’s performance was a fitting tribute to Mr Nolan as he concludes three years of service as Deputy Headmaster/Head of Senior School. David has led with wisdom, humility and genuine care for the wellbeing of students, staff and families. He has strengthened our Senior School community, championed our Anglican identity and consistently ensured the interests of students remained at the centre of every decision.
One of David’s strengths has been his willingness to challenge ideas constructively. The strongest leadership teams are those where trusted colleagues are prepared to ask difficult questions, test ideas and offer thoughtful counsel. David has done that throughout his time at St Peter’s College, and I am deeply grateful for his honesty, wisdom and friendship.
As I shared with our students, none of us can elevate ourselves. Honour is bestowed by others in recognition of character, service and contribution. It was our privilege to acknowledge David’s service and thank him for all he has given to St Peter’s College. His alma mater, Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie), is gaining an excellent educator and leader, and we wish David and his family every success in this exciting new chapter.
Finally, we warmly welcome home our Year 10 students following their 21-Day Journey in the Flinders Ranges. This significant experience asks much of the boys, physically, emotionally and personally and I hope they return with a deeper sense of resilience, independence, gratitude and connection to one another. I know their families will be looking forward to welcoming them home and hearing the stories and reflections that will no doubt emerge in the days ahead.
As our students begin a well-earned holiday, I encourage them to enjoy time with family and friends and return refreshed for the opportunities that await in Term 3. I also hope they take a moment to thank the many people who contribute to their growth and development, especially their families, teachers, coaches and support staff.
I wish every member of our School community a safe, restful and enjoyable break, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday 21 July.
