Could there be a better way to start the day than greeting Junior School boys as they are dropped off at School each morning? I have been energised by the conversation and interaction with our youngest Saints students at the commencement of my working day so far this year. What’s more, I have been impressed by their presentation, shiny shoes, firm handshake, eye contact and “Good morning Mr Browning”, and of course, gravity defying socks. It is pleasing to see that these high standards are starting to rub off on the Senior School boys as well. These manners and confident yet courteous interactions are keenly demonstrating the value of respect. Well done Junior School boys.
It is always a pleasure to welcome back alumni to connect and celebrate life’s journey. This week we welcomed back our 2018 top academic achievers at a special Academic Muster. In 2018, 48% of our Year 12s gained a university entrance score of 90 and above placing them in the top 10% in Australia. These wonderful results reflect the incredible determination of students, the tireless support of their families, and the passion and skill of our staff. Congratulations to Domenico Perrotta on being the Recipient of the Young Exhibition for the Dux of School.
After accepting the position of Deputy Headmaster at Melbourne Grammar School, Mr Ben Hanisch will depart St Peter’s College at the conclusion of Term 2, 2019. Mr Hanisch’s departure will mark three excellent years of dedicated service to St Peter’s College where he has made a significant contribution to the renewal of the School, not least of which was demonstrated through the position of Acting Headmaster during the interregnum in 2017. Please join me in wishing both Mr Hanisch and his family well as they look to make their transition to Melbourne later this year. The recruitment process for a new Deputy Headmaster, Head of Senior School has commenced.
I am also thrilled to announce this week the beginnings of our Social Entrepreneurship program that commences in the Senior School. Junior School parents who are interested in learning more about our growing focus in this area can read the Senior School information here.
Thank you to all parents who are committing hours and hours of volunteer time behind the scenes for our various friends and support committees. Your time, care and attention to advancing the endeavours of our students, whether it be through the arts, sport, service or wider co-curricular programs is highly valued. I look forward to enjoying the upcoming events with you and our students.
Tim Browning
Headmaster
